Ankle-Pick off the whizzer legit?

I have a few options off the whizzer but am looking to add variety. A friend that does pure wrestling (competed in American high school) recommended the ankle-pick off of the whizzer; even if it doesn’t work it exposes other stuff when you feint it. I asked a guy to help me experiment at a drilling session and the coach came and kind of made me feel like shit for even experimenting with it, said he’d never leave his leg there. submitted by /u/OJIClarke [link] [comments]

Mica Galvao IBJJF Worlds Highlight

Highlights of Mica’s performance at Worlds this year. Better late than never! I had to edit out his highlights from his match with Andy in the final due to copyright. I also got highlights of his performances at the other majors. I knew Mica was going to Hit the glam slam this year! Enjoy! submitted by /u/killjoy87 [link] [comments]

Black stripes on red bar instead of white

Hello everyone, first post but long time bjj practionner. So it seems there is a ¨new trend¨ for bjj black belts. Some known bjj bb are wearing black stripes on the red instructor bar isntead of traditionnal white stripes. I heard it means the said black belt is also a judo bb. Why judo and not any other arts? Apparently cuz judo is the original source, the ¨mother art¨. Anyone knows more about this ? And, yes of course, your opinions on this are very welcome. Historical gi pant drawstring question

Does anyone know exactly what kind of drawstring was used on the original historical gis? I’m actually having quite a hard time finding this information, but I’m hoping someone out there who studies the history of martial arts and Japanese clothing might know this one. Obviously, the flat weave drawstring is more traditional than all the synthetic ones that everybody’s using now, (including my company), but I feel fairly certain that there’s something more traditional and older than that that probably function quite well. I’m guessing it may be more of a rope like drawstring, but I would love to…

Should I compete?

Hi, I was going to run my first competition in Bjj but my opponent has been rejected in the female heavyweight class in white belt. I am 250 lbs and very tall and have a hard time getting opponents which makes it hard to compete at all. However, I have been curious about it for a year and thought I would take the chance and try it. However, there is an opponent in openweight in purple belt she is much smaller 130 lbs but there is possibility for match. Although it feels strange to face someone with so much more…

Avoiding the cradle in knee shield half?

I'm not a humongous person so it's pretty easy to get your arms around me anyway. I play half the way Lachlan Giles does in the Half Guard Anthology, high knee shield, butt far away, head close to opponent, which makes me quite easy to cradle. I could play half with my head way away from my them but that also puts my arms far away so I can't do much but stall and I don't want to do that. I'm fine if they arm weave pass me, I'm fine if they start reaching for my head. Lachlan has responses…

Seated guard versus standing opponent when they post on your knees/upper shins.

I had a question about seated guard that usually comes up when playing against larger beginners. Sorry if it's unclear. Sometimes when playing seated guard against a larger standing standing opponent, they initiate a pass where they lean forward and post all their weight on your knees or upper shins. In this situation they are still on their toes, kind of like a "bear crawl" except their hands are posting on the bottom players knees/upper shins instead of on the ground. This is an ineffective pass against seated guard, since they aren't flattening the bottom player out and they don't…

How do you secure rollout mats on a spring floor?

Hi all, I'll be making a 12x12 spring floor in my garage. Plan is to use foam blocks on the bottom, with two layers of plywood on top. I'll be purchasing rollout mats with the foam on the bottom. From looking at them, I don't think they would do well with having Velcro attached, as that might affect them rolling up, and if I had to take the Velcro off, I'm concerned that I would damage the foam. How do I secure the rollout mats to the plywood? Is the only option to build a frame around the mats? Thanks…
